OTTAWA, May 15, 2017 /CNW/ - The Honourable Ralph Goodale, Minister of Public Safety and Emergency Preparedness, today issued the following statement to launch National Police Week.
"As Canada's Minister of Public Safety and Emergency Preparedness, I am extremely proud of the incredible work police officers carry out to keep Canadians safe. Thanks to their dedication and professionalism, and the many personal sacrifices they make on our behalf, we live in one of the safest countries in the world.
National Police Week is an opportunity for all of us to pause for a moment and think about the invaluable contributions these men and women make to our quality of life. We see them every day in our communities, but they also play other essential and less visible roles such as fighting organized crime and helping ensure our national security. During their off-duty hours, many officers continue to contribute through volunteer activities – such as coaching youth and being positive role models.
On behalf of the Government of Canada, and all Canadians, I thank police officers for their commitment to policing and all that they bring to our society. I also thank their families and loved ones, for everything they do behind the scenes."
