Minister Guergis congratulates Women in Communications Awards recipients
OTTAWA, March 29 /CNW Telbec/ - The Honourable Helena Guergis, Minister of State (Status of Women), today applauded the commitment and contributions displayed by recipients of the annual Women in Communications Awards (CWC). The Minister congratulated the eight women on their outstanding contributions to the field of communications and for their part in helping to advance women in the industry.
"Canadian women are continuing to break down barriers to success in all fields of endeavour, including the communications industry," Minister Guergis said. "Our government is working with partners at all levels to support the full and equal participation of women and girls in Canadian society.
"I applaud each of today's award recipients for their extraordinary vision, dedication and skill."
Recipients of the 2010 Canadian Women in Communications Awards are:
- Woman of the Year Award: Kirstine Stewart, General Manager, CBC Television, Canadian Broadcasting Corporation; - For the Excellence in Leadership Awards: - Change Leader: Valerie Creighton, President and CEO, Canadian Television Fund; - Trailblazer: Martha Fusca, President and CEO, Stornoway Productions; - Technology Innovator: Lina L. Lawrence, Director, IT Business Services, MTS Allstream Inc., - Champion of Women's Advancement: Karen Lawson, Associate Director, Business Development, Bell Business Markets, Bell Canada; - CWC Leader: Jodi Orr, "Taylor," the Midday Host, BOBFM, CTVglobemedia & Chair, CWC Southwestern Regional Board; - Champion of Women's Advancement: Donna Whitney, Director, Commercial Advanced Property Solutions, Rogers Communications Inc. - Outstanding Leader: Madeline Ziniak, National Vice President, Rogers OMNI Television.
Since 1992, the CWC Annual Awards have honoured exceptional women and organizations for their leadership, individual accomplishments and contributions to advancing women in the field of communications.
