On June 24th, let's celebrate Saint-Jean-Baptiste Day!
OTTAWA, ON, June 24, 2020 /CNW/ - More than 10 million Canadians across the country speak French, and our accents are as varied as the places where we live. Francophones and Francophiles across Canada join Quebecers today to mark Saint-Jean-Baptiste Day. While the current situation will change the way we mark this day, it will not prevent us from celebrating the French language and culture in Canada.
Whether we are Quebecers, Fransaskois, Franco-Ontarians, Franco-Manitobans, Franco-Albertans, Franco-British Columbians, Franco-Nunavummiut, Franco-Newfoundlanders, French-speaking People of the North, Franco-Yukoners, Acadians or other French speakers, let's join in the virtual festivities and celebrate Saint-Jean-Baptiste Day and our French-speaking roots. Communities across the country have been working tirelessly to adapt and come up with creative ways to gather virtually to pay tribute to our Francophone culture. Wherever you are in the country, I invite you to join the fun!
Today, dynamic Francophone communities are making sure that our unique and beautiful language resonates all across Canada. By supporting these celebrations, the Government of Canada is reaffirming its longstanding cooperation with the provinces and territories to ensure better services for official-language minority communities. The festivities taking place from coast to coast to coast will put the vitality of Francophone communities in the spotlight!
In 2020, despite the distancing required, let's continue to honour our language and culture, which enrich our society and make our country special.
Happy Saint-Jean-Baptiste Day to all!
