The Government of Canada announces the appointment of Christianne M. Laizner as Vice-Chairperson (Telecommunications)
GATINEAU, QC, May 24, 2018 /CNW/ - Today the Honourable Mélanie Joly, Minister of Canadian Heritage, announced the new full-time appointment of a new Vice-Chairperson (Telecommunications) to the Canadian Radio-television and Telecommunications Commission. The appointment is the result of the Government of Canada's open, transparent and merit-based selection process, which reflects Canada's diversity and respects gender parity.
Christianne M. Laizner has been appointed Vice-Chairperson (Telecommunications) for a term of five years, after serving as Interim Vice-Chairperson since July 2017. Ms. Laizner joined the CRTC in 2010 as General Counsel, Telecommunications, and then held the position of Senior General Counsel and Executive Director of the CRTC Legal Sector. Ms. Laizner was called to the Ontario Bar in 1982. She holds an LL.B. from Western University and a B.A. (Hons) from McGill University.
The CRTC is an administrative tribunal that regulates and supervises broadcasting and telecommunications on behalf of the Canadian public. In 2016, the Government of Canada adopted a new approach to Governor-in-Council appointments. This approach respects the principle of gender parity and is based on an open, transparent and merit-based selection process. It results in the recommendation of remarkably competent candidates who truly reflect Canadian diversity.
The new approach requires a selection process for both full-time and part-time positions.
