The Government of Canada announces the reappointment of Nathalie Bondil as Vice-Chair for the Canada Council for the Arts
GATINEAU, QC, June 15, 2018 /CNW/ - Today, the Honourable Mélanie Joly, Minister of Canadian Heritage, announced the reappointment of Nathalie Bondil as the Vice-Chair to the Canada Council for the Arts, for a term of five years. The reappointment is the result of the Government of Canada's open, transparent and merit-based selection process, which reflects Canada's diversity and respects gender parity.
Ms. Bondil most recently served as a part-time member for the Council's Board of Directors, representing the province of Quebec. Prior to this, she was Vice-Chair of the Council's Board of Administration from March 2014 to March 2018. In addition to her experience with the Council, Ms. Bondil has worked in the field of fine arts for over 25 years. She is currently the Director General and Chief Curator for the Montreal Museum of Fine Arts. In 2017, she was the recipient of the Prix Femmes d'affaires du Québec, and in 2015, she was named a member of the Order of Canada.
The Canada Council for the Arts is Canada's national public arts funder. The Council champions and invests in artistic excellence through a broad range of grants and services to professional Canadian artists and arts organizations in dance, integrated arts, media arts, music, theatre, visual arts, and writing and publishing. It also promotes public awareness of the arts through its communications, research and arts promotion activities.

The Canada Council for the Arts is governed by an 11-member Board. It consists of a Chair, Vice-Chair and nine other members from across Canada. Along with the Director/Chief Executive Officer, they are appointed by the Governor in Council.
In 2016, the Government of Canada adopted a new approach to Governor-in-Council appointments. This approach respects the principle of gender parity and is based on an open, transparent and merit-based selection process. It results in the recommendation of remarkably competent candidates who truly reflect Canadian diversity.
The new approach requires a selection process for both full-time and part-time positions.
