The annual competition, which had the theme "Celebrate Your Future" this year, had three national winners and six finalists
GATINEAU, QC, June 14, 2017 /CNW/ - The Honorable Mélanie Joly, Minister of Canadian Heritage, today announced the three national winners and six finalists of the 2017 Canada Day Challenge. Two aspiring young filmmakers also received an Early Bird Participation Prize in the "Here's My Canada" contest, a collaboration between Historica Canada and Canadian Heritage.
The national winners are Emily Zbaraschuk of Prince Albert, Saskatchewan, in the "Write it!" category; Fiona Tung of Markham, Ontario, in the "Draw it!" category; and Joshua Sprigg of Mount Albert, Ontario, in the "Snap it!" category.
The finalists are Anny Lemyre-Roy of Trois-Rivières, Quebec, and Victoria Gibbs of Little Rock, Prince Edward Island, in the "Write it!" category; Laura Lima Nishida of Bedford, Nova Scotia, and Youngli You of Calgary, Alberta, in the "Draw it!" category; and Kassia Emery of Whitehorse, Yukon, and Anna Benwell of Lower Sackville, Nova Scotia, in the "Snap it!" category.
The two winners of the "Here's My Canada" contest Early Bird Participation Prize are Estelle Lajeunesse of Eastman, Quebec, and Emily Janzen of North Vancouver, British Columbia.
The five winners will be invited to Ottawa, starting June 27, to attend the Canada Day celebrations for Canada 150. During their trip to Canada's Capital Region, they will have the opportunity to visit Parliament, museums and national historic sites as VIP guests. They will each receive an iPad, courtesy of the National Film Board of Canada.
Other prizes will also be awarded to the winners and finalists, thanks to the support of various official collaborators.

The video contest "Here's My Canada" is a Canada 150 Signature project presented by Historica Canada. The contest, open to youth and adults, will end August 31, 2017.
The official collaborators of the 2017 Canada Day Challenge are the National Film Board of Canada, Parks Canada, the Royal Canadian Mounted Police, Encounters With Canada, the Trans Canada Trail, the Canada Post Corporation, the Canadian Museum of History and the Royal Canadian Mint.
