Minister Moore Announces Investment to Create 2,500 Summer Jobs in Canadian Museums and Heritage Institutions Français
FORT LANGLEY, BC, July 5, 2013 /CNW/ - During the first ever Canada History Week, the Honourable James Moore, Minister of Canadian Heritage and Official Languages, today announced support for the creation of job opportunities across Canada to help young people build careers in museums and heritage organizations.
"Our Government is taking measures to help provide young Canadians with valuable work experience in heritage fields," said Minister Moore. "By investing in heritage organizations across the country, we are helping to enhance Canadians' knowledge of our rich cultural heritage and history."
This investment is expected to create 2,500 summer and short-term jobs, including 1,900 jobs in small and medium-sized Canadian museums. The Government's assistance provides partial salary subsidies to employers for hiring Canadian students and recent graduates, aged 15 to 30.
The Canadian Museums Association, the professional association for Canada's museums community, will receive funding to deliver the Young Canada Works (YCW) programs to heritage institutions and youth.
"The impact of the YCW program on the heritage community as a whole is undeniably positive," said Nancy Noble, President of the Canadian Museums Association's Board of Directors. "Since its inception, the program has built up a solid reputation among heritage institutions and with youth studying in the museum field. It is our privilege to be involved in the creation of a passionate, well-trained, and well-rounded workforce of the future."
The Government of Canada is providing funding of $12,782,200 over two years through Young Canada Works - Heritage Programs. Through this program of the Department of Canadian Heritage, the Government offers financial support to close to 1,500 employers by providing partial salary subsidies.
