REGINA, Aug. 27, 2013 /CNW/ - The Honourable Lynne Yelich, Minister of State (Foreign Affairs and Consular), on behalf of the Honourable Shelly Glover, Minister of Canadian Heritage and Official Languages, today announced funding for 11 organizations in Regina.
"In Saskatchewan, we have a rich heritage, a vibrant cultural scene, and talented authors and artists," said Minister of State Yelich. "The investments announced today will support a variety of organizations in their work to preserve our heritage and our culture, as well as showcase the work of local artists and artisans to Saskatchewan residents and all Canadians."
Funding will support activities such as:
- the creation of professional development activities for heritage organizations and book publishers;
- the production and circulation of a travelling retrospective exhibit on the work of Saskatchewan artist Wilf Perreault;
- the creation of content and the production and distribution of Saskatchewan print magazines and non-daily newspapers; and
- the presentation of a contemporary dance series and a spoken word and play reading series.
"Our Government recognizes that arts, culture, and heritage are important generators of economic growth, jobs, and wealth across Canada," said Minister Glover. "That is why we are proud to support the work of these Saskatchewan organizations as they enhance the vitality of their community and help strengthen connections among Canadians."
"Support through the Canada Arts Presentation Fund has enabled us to expand our programming while keeping it affordable and accessible for everyone," said Marian Donnelly, Chair of the Board of Directors of the Creative City Centre. "We are providing new opportunities to showcase Canadian talent, and we greatly appreciate the support from Canadian Heritage for our spoken word and play reading series."
The Government of Canada is providing total funding of $604,285 through four programs of the Department of Canadian Heritage: the Canada Arts Presentation Fund, the Canada Book Fund, the Canada Periodical Fund, and the Museums Assistance Program.
