Minister Pablo Rodriguez Announces Investments to Support the Arts in Quebec

Funding will support 24 professional arts organizations through eight foundations in Quebec

MONTRÉAL, Aug. 10, 2018 /CNW/ - Today, the Honourable Pablo Rodriguez, Minister of Canadian Heritage and Multiculturalism announced a matching grant of more than $5 million for eight foundations in Quebec in support of the professional arts organizations listed below.

Among the 24 organizations receiving funding in 2017–18, four are receiving support for the first time: the St. Lawrence Choir, the Montreal Chamber Music Festival and the Ladies' Morning Musical Club in Montréal, and the Association de Repentigny pour l'avancement de la musique in Repentigny.

Cultural institutions play an essential role in Canadian society. Investments in arts and culture help build vibrant communities, allowing our economy to grow, creating good jobs for the middle class, and giving more Canadians the opportunity to experience the performing arts.

This is why the Government of Canada is proud to provide arts organizations and foundations with funding as part of a matching program to create an endowment fund or raise the capital of an existing fund for the benefit of arts organizations, as well as to support their fundraising efforts.

The Endowment Incentives Component of the Canada Cultural Investment Fund (CCIF) encourages Canadians across the country to donate to professional arts organizations, thus creating new sources of revenue and contributing to their sustainable growth.

The leveraging effect of this component maximizes the impact of the Government's investment and stimulates private-sector donations to Canadian arts organizations. Funds generated through endowments can be used for regular operations or to undertake special initiatives, ensuring that performers can showcase their talent and that future generations can experience a variety of artistic and cultural performances.

Through the funding announced today, the Government of Canada is taking concrete steps to support organizations that enrich their community's cultural life and help strengthen its economy.

Quick Facts

Since 2001, the Endowment Incentives component of the CCIF has provided $250 million to the endowment funds of 233 professional arts organizations, supplementing $327 million in private donations, for a total investment of $577 million.

In 2017–18, 123 grants were approved for 116 arts organizations through the Endowment Incentives component.

In 2017–18, the Government of Canada has provided 65.9 cents for every dollar donated by the private sector through the Endowment Incentives component.

Applications to the Endowment Incentives component are submitted jointly by a not-for-profit professional arts organization and an associated foundation.
