Minister Qualtrough participates in Extraordinary G20 Labour and Employment Ministerial virtual meeting Français
GATINEAU, QC, April 23, 2020 /CNW/ - The world is facing a serious public health and economic crisis. In recent weeks, Canada has taken immediate, significant and decisive action to support Canadians and businesses facing hardship as a result of the COVID-19 global pandemic and stands ready to do more if needed.
Canada is also working with international partners to discuss global economic and social stability, share information and best practices, and strengthen international coordination in response to the current crisis. In support of these efforts, the Honourable Carla Qualtrough, Minister of Employment, Workforce Development and Disability Inclusion, participated today in a videoconference meeting with G20 Labour and Employment Ministers to discuss the impact of the COVID-19 global pandemic on employment and the social protection responses implemented by G20 countries.
During the meeting, Minister Qualtrough highlighted actions taken through Canada's COVID-19 Economic Response Plan to support the Canadian labour market and vulnerable citizens. The Extraordinary G20 Labour and Employment Ministerial Meeting concluded with the endorsement of a Ministers' Statement on COVID-19. Ministers also agreed to be ready to meet again as needed to monitor progress and consider additional actions and commitments to continue to support workers and businesses and sustain progress against common G20 goals.
