Minister Raitt discusses cooperative labour relations with Canadian Electricity Association Français
TORONTO, March 25, 2013 /CNW/ - Cooperative labour relations play a critical role in Canada's overall economic success, said the Honourable Lisa Raitt, Canada's Labour Minister, in her keynote address at the Canadian Electricity Association's annual Labour Relations Symposium.
"Our government is helping employers and unions build and maintain cooperative relationships," said Minister Raitt. "Healthy labour relations are an important element in Canada's economic stability and prosperity."
Minister Raitt emphasized the importance of harmonious labour relations in dealing with the industry's challenges. "Cooperative labour relations are even more crucial in light of the skills and labour shortage Canada is facing," she added. "If an industry wants to attract and retain the best talents, it certainly needs a good work climate."
The annual symposium brings together human resource professionals in the electricity industry to examine issues and trends in collective bargaining.
The Labour Program develops, administers and enforces workplace legislation and regulations, such as the Canada Labour Code, which covers industrial relations, health, safety and employment standards for federally regulated workers and employers, and the Employment Equity Act.
