Minister Ric McIver attends ABVMA Annual General Meeting

EDMONTON, March 9, 2015 /CNW/ - Members of the Alberta Veterinary Medical Association (ABVMA) were happy to receive greetings from Minister Ric McIver (Ministry of Jobs, Skills, Training and Labour) at their Annual General Meeting (AGM) on March 1.  In his address, Minster McIver noted that amendments to the Veterinary Profession Act (VPA), regarding the governance of Registered Veterinary Technologists, are expected go forward during the fall 2015 sitting of the legislature.  Amendments regarding the registration of veterinary paraprofessionals are on hold.

Graduates of accredited Animal Health Technology diploma programs will now be practicing as Registered Veterinary Technologists (RVTs) in Alberta, in accordance with the VPA. The names of the categories of registration for RVTs in the ABVMA Bylaws was passed by a majority vote of the members.
