New vice-chair and trustee will help guide the Canadian Museum of Nature in telling more diverse natural-science stories
GATINEAU, QC, March 28, 2019 /CNW/ - The Honourable Pablo Rodriguez, Minister of Canadian Heritage and Multiculturalism, announced today the appointments of Glenn Sakaki as vice-chair and Allan Adam as trustee of the Canadian Museum of Nature's Board of Trustees.
Mr. Sakaki, a professional engineer in the metallurgical field in Ontario, is an experienced global leader in the renewable energy, information technology, marketing and communications. Since 2001, he has held various senior management positions with Hatch, a Canadian consulting firm in the mining, energy and infrastructure sectors. He has worked abroad in the United Kingdom, Mexico and the Netherlands.
Mr. Sakaki is a member of the Canadian Institute of Mining, Metallurgy and Petroleum and a member of the Royal Ontario Museum. He also conceived and created the Hatch Gallery of Contemporary Art, housed in Hatch's global delivery centre in Mississauga, Ontario, which features specimens from the Douglas Kirwin collection and sculptures from Abraham Anghik Ruben. Mr. Sakaki holds a Bachelor of Applied Science in Metallurgical Engineering from the University of British Columbia and has completed the Marketing Management Executive Program at the Western University's Richard Ivey School of Business.
As a new trustee, Mr. Adam, from Saskatchewan, has experience encouraging relations between First Nations, Métis and the three levels of government. He has significant communications experience as a broadcaster, media spokesperson, translator, writer, negotiator and facilitator. He has extensive translation experience with governments and mining companies on environmental review processes. Mr. Adam is currently the CEO of Dene Hha Communications and is an Elder Spiritual Advisor and Counsellor with the Prince Albert Penitentiary. Previously, he worked as a university lecturer of the Dene Language at Northern Teacher Education Program. He also served as an Aboriginal Relationship Specialist at Saskatchewan Environment, as the CEO of the Dene National Office, and as Chief of Fond du Lac Denesuline First Nation.
The Canadian Museum of Nature is Canada's national museum of natural history and sciences. The museum provides evidence-based insights, inspiring experiences and meaningful engagement with nature's past, present and future.
These appointments were made under the Government of Canada's new approach to Governor in Council appointments. This approach supports open, transparent and merit-based selection processes that strive for gender parity, reflect Canada's diversity and support ministers in making appointment recommendations for positions within their portfolio by providing them with information and referrals.
