MONCTON, NB, Aug. 22, 2013 /CNW/ - The Honourable Shelly Glover, Minister of Canadian Heritage and Official Languages, today announced a major investment in New Brunswick's official languages sector. The Government of Canada is upholding its commitment to ensuring that Canadians can continue to preserve, celebrate and promote our two official languages across the country.
"Our Government is very proud to be associated with these organizations that enhance the vitality of New Brunswick's Francophone and Acadian communities," said Minister Glover. "English and French are an integral part of our history, our identity and our future. These projects help define who we are as Canadians. On the road to 2017, let us continue to celebrate all the things that make Canada the united, prosperous and free country it is today."
"Cultural development is the result of a wide range of activities, consultations, sociocultural workshops, performances, training sessions, festivals and more," said Marie-Thérèse Landry, director of the Conseil provincial des sociétés culturelles. "The funding received will help ensure cultural action for the province's Francophone population over the next three years, through cultural organizations."
A total of 19 organizations across New Brunswick will benefit from the funding provided by the Government of Canada. High-quality projects and programs will be carried out and will support community development. Among today's recipients are the Association acadienne des artistes professionnel.le.s du Nouveau-Brunswick, the Centre culturel Aberdeen, the Comité organisateur du Congrès mondial acadien 2014, the Conseil provincial des sociétés culturelles, RADARTS, Radio MIRACADIE, and the Société de l'Acadie Nouveau-Brunswick.
The Government of Canada has provided funding in the amount of $2,734,400 through the Strategic Funds of the Community Life component of the Development of Official-Language Communities Program. This Canadian Heritage program aims to foster the development of Canada's Anglophone and Francophone minority communities and enable them to participate fully in all aspects of Canadian life.
