MONTRÉAL, Aug. 29, 2013 /CNW/ - The Honourable Shelly Glover, Minister of Canadian Heritage and Official Languages, today announced funding to help Le Mois de la Photo à Montréal present the 13th edition of its biennial event.
"The Government of Canada is pleased to support organizations like Le Mois de la Photo à Montréal that allow artists from the region and beyond to expand the boundaries of their art and expose us to bold new works," said Minister Glover. "This event also gives Canadian artists an international showcase and contributes to the country's economic vitality."
The funding will be used to host the 13th edition of Le Mois de la Photo à Montréal biennial event, under the theme "Drone: the Automated Image." This contemporary photography event will take place from September 5 to October 5, 2013, and will feature more than 27 exhibits by around 30 local, national, and international artists. The public and the artistic community will also be able to take advantage of various activities, conferences, meetings, presentations, and tours to improve their knowledge of contemporary photography.
"Le Mois de la Photo à Montréal is very proud to acknowledge the enduring and crucial financial support of the Government of Canada. This generous funding has long been a fundamental contribution to the artistic success and financial stability of our contemporary photography biennial. This support helps us meet our commitments to the local community while also providing an important international showcase for Canadian artists," said Chuck Samuels, Director General of Le Mois de la Photo à Montréal.
The Government of Canada has provided funding of $47,000 through the Canada Arts Presentation Fund of the Department of Canadian Heritage. This program gives Canadians increased access to the variety and richness of Canada's culture through professional arts festivals, presentations of live professional performances, and other artistic experiences.
