WINNIPEG, March 21, 2014 /CNW/ - The Honourable Bernard Valcourt, Minister of Aboriginal Affairs and Northern Development, delivered the following statement today:
"On behalf of the Government of Canada, I would like to congratulate the 14 outstanding recipients of the 21st Annual Indspire Awards. It was an honour to join with these inspirational individuals in Winnipeg, Manitoba, today to celebrate their achievements. Their unique contributions are representative of the potential and strength of Aboriginal people all across Canada, and all Canadians stand to benefit from their outstanding achievements.
These 14 individuals whose achievements span the arts, health, academia and business and commerce, inspire us not only because of what they have accomplished, but because they show the way to so many others.
And there is so much potential and so much opportunity. That is why it is so important for all of us to continue working together and to do what we can to make opportunities real for Aboriginal youth today. It's why we have invested so much together to improve education outcomes for First Nations students.
It is why we will continue to invest in skills and training and why we are proud to support Indspire for the delivery of bursaries and scholarships for students.
The Government of Canada remains a proud partner with Indspire and supporter of the Indspire Awards.
