MNO President Lipinski Congratulates Premier-elect Wynne MNO Anticipates Continuing Good Relations with Ontario Government
OTTAWA, Jan. 26, 2013 /CNW/ - Today the Ontario Liberal Party selected Kathleen Wynne as its new Leader. "On behalf of the Métis Nation of Ontario (MNO)," stated MNO President Gary Lipinski, "I would like to congratulate Premier-elect Wynne and I look forward continuing to work with the Ontario government on our many areas of mutual interest."
"The MNO built its positive relations with the government of Ontario under Premier McGuinty," explained President Lipinski, "through the MNO-Ontario Framework Agreement, signed in 2008. It proved to be a solid foundation for cooperation between our two governments and resulted in the advancement of Métis rights as well as achievements in a whole range of other areas including education, health, jobs creation and economic development."
"We enjoyed a strong working relationship with Premier-elect Wynne, both when she was Minister of Aboriginal Affairs and when she was Minister of Education," stated President Lipinski. "Collectively, we were able to advance many important issues. We look forward to continuing that type of productive relationship, including building on the commitments in the MNO-Ontario Framework Agreement."
"We will be looking for Premier-elect Wynne to continue advancing the agenda outlined in the MNO-Ontario Framework agreement," stated President Lipinski. "Among our key priorities are insuring Métis youth have every opportunity to attain their professional and career goals and legislation that would recognize Ontario's Métis and the MNO's governance structures."
"We look forward to engaging with Premier-elect Wynne. I have confidence that by working together --- we will continue to achieve results for Métis citizens, families and communities in Ontario," concluded President Lipinski.
