MNP Call for Election of the Provincial Métis Council of the Métis Nation - Saskatchewan 2012
SASKATOON, Aug. 1, 2012 /CNW/ - MNP LLP (MNP), the Electoral Office for Métis Nation - Saskatchewan (MN-S) has announced today that Election Period officially begins Friday, August 3, 2012 and ends with Election Day on Saturday, September 8, 2012. Chief Electoral Officer Ian Craven is issuing an official call for nominations for candidates for the Provincial Executive as well as Regional Representatives for all 12 Regions to be accepted between August 3, 2012 and August 8, 2012 at 2:00 p.m. Central Standard Time (CST). Candidate packages and additional election information for the 2012 Election will be available August 3, from the Electoral Office as well as from the Official Election website: MNSvote.ca.
"Becoming a Member of the Executive or a Regional Representative provides Métis citizens with an opportunity to influence the future direction of the Legislative Assembly of Métis Nation Saskatchewan, which represents all Métis in Saskatchewan," said Ian Craven, the 2012 Chief Electoral Officer with MNP. "Métis citizens who are interested in becoming a member of the Legislative Assembly of Métis Nation - Saskatchewan should seriously consider candidacy."
For detailed information about the election process, regulations and voting districts and potential candidates, Métis citizens are encouraged to visit the election website at MNSvote.ca, or call the toll-free election information line at 1.877.780.VOTE (8683). A comprehensive candidate information package will be sent to all potential nominees upon request (beginning August 3, 2012) or can be downloaded from the election website: MNSvote.ca.

To become a candidate, a person must be qualified to vote in the election for the office for which the person seeks to be a candidate and not be disqualified under terms set out in Section 17 of the 2007 Elections Act;

Right to vote for Executive Member
Every person has a right to vote in an election for an Executive Member if, on Election Day, the person is all of the following:
(a) a Métis citizen | |||
(b) at least 16 years of age | |||
(c) a resident of Saskatchewan | |||
(d) not registered as a member of a First Nation or other group of Aboriginal peoples |
Right to vote for Regional Representative
Every person has a right to vote in an election for a Regional Representative if, on Election Day, the voter is all of the following:

How and where does a Métis citizen vote?
A voter may vote using one of the following methods:
(a) in person at a polling station on election day | |||
(b) in person at an advance polling station prior to election day |
Can a voter use a provincial Métis card for identification?
Yes, by showing your Provincial Métis Central Registry Card, you will be added to the voters list if you are not already on the list.
How do I get on the Voter's List?
Saskatchewan Métis Citizens who voted in 2007 are on the voters' list plus citizens that have registered with the Provincial Métis Central Registry and authorized the Registry to use your registration information in the preparation of the voters list. If you are not already on the voters list, you may get on the voter's list by doing one of the following:
1) | Presenting your MN-S Central Registry Card to the polling clerk at the time of voting | |||
2) | Register at the Polling Station by showing acceptable documentary evidence for the purposes of identification and complete a voter registration form. The approved document must show the voter's: | |||
(i) first and last names | ||||
(ii) current address | ||||
(iii) signature or photo | ||||
