Mo Bros embrace their face; 85% plan to participate in Movember again next
year
The Schick Movember Shave Survey reveals only 1 in 5 of Mo Bros are looking forward to shaving their moustache off on December 1
TORONTO, Nov. 26 /CNW/ - Let it grow, let it grow, let it grow! Despite any irritation, discomfort or pressure from their significant others, Mo Bros have embraced their face with 45% indicating they like the look of their moustache. Another 38% admit that their moustache is growing on them, while only 17% can't wait to shave it off.
"Men across the country are growing their support in record numbers, but they are not the only ones dealing with the irritation of a Mo. According to our survey, Mo Bros said that 45% of their significant others are counting the days until December 1," says Josh Gardner, Schick Brand Manager, Energizer Canada. "Regardless of how significant others feel about the Mo, 85% of respondents are considering growing a moustache again next year. Movember is a cause that is continuing to grow, making the Mo the hairy ribbon that is uniting a nation in the fight against prostate cancer."
Feeling the love:
According to the survey, 79% of conscientious Mo Bros said that the best part of having a moustache is supporting a great cause - cancers affecting men.
Other highlights of the Schick Movember Shave Survey include:
- Mirror, Mirror on the wall. Thirty-eight per cent of respondents selected Tom Selleck as the greatest moustache of all time
- What is your M.O.? When asked the kind of moustache they are growing, 35% of respondents answered whatever they can grow, followed by handlebar at 22%
- Feeling the burn. Thirty-six per cent of respondents said the itch and irritation of moustache growth is the worst part of having a moustache
- No love. Forty per cent indicated that their significant other did not like their moustache and is counting down the days to December 1. A very loving 18% of respondents' significant others touch it, feel it, love it and another 17% are indifferent
The Mo must go:
Whether Mo Bros - or their significant others - love their Mo or not, Movember rules indicate that Mo Bros must shave it off on December 1. Official Movember Gala Partés will be hosted across Canada from November 25 to December 3, 2010 at which time Mo Bros and Sistas can celebrate their success of raising awareness and funds for Prostate Cancer Canada.
Reasons to support the cause:
- One-in-two men will be diagnosed with cancer in their lifetime. One-in-three women will be diagnosed
- One-in-six men will be diagnosed with prostate cancer in their lifetime. One new case occurs every 2.7 minutes and a man dies from prostate cancer every 19 minutes
- Rates of prostate cancer in men are comparable to rates of breast cancer in women
- The World Health Organization projects that in 2010 cancer will become the leading cause of death globally, surpassing heart disease and stroke
- Prostate cancer is over 90 per cent curable if detected in its earliest stages
