"Work and everyday life are mobile. So the devices we use are becoming smaller, more portable and upgraded more often," comments Sören Enholm, CEO of TCO Development, the organization behind TCO Certified. "To reduce the environmental and human impact of technology, we need to make conscious, comprehensive sustainability decisions when buying new products. When leading IT brands use TCO Certified to help them make more sustainable products, that's a step in the right direction."

A TCO Certified computer or tablet contains less hazardous substances such as chlorinated and brominated flame retardants, heavy metals and the phthalates DEHP, BBP, DBP and DIBP. Certified product models also meet stricter verification criteria for the brand's progress in socially responsible manufacturing.
"Focus on sustainability is now a clear trend within the IT industry," continues Enholm. "Brands need to pay attention to the environmental and social aspects of their business or risk not being able to meet growing customer demand for sustainably designed and made products. For a manufacturer, using a relevant product certification can be part of a smart sustainability strategy."
