MONTREAL, Nov. 18, 2014 /CNW Telbec/ - Five weeks before Christmas, Moisson Montréal took the opportunity of yesterday's Recognition Evening to kick off the festivities surrounding its 30th anniversary. In the presence of its thirteen new ambassadors, whose contributions have helped advance Moisson Montréal's mission, as well as numerous elected officials, the organization unveiled the program for its 30th anniversary celebrations, along with its new Web site, www.moissonmontreal.org.
"In 1984, Moisson Montréal began its operations to help Montrealers suffering from food insecurity," said Pierre Legault, founder of Moisson Montréal. "We never imagined that 30 years later, Moisson Montréal would be the largest centre in Canada for collecting, sorting and distributing emergency food assistance," he added.
"Thanks to the support of our valued volunteers and donors, nearly 13.2 million kilos of food and other essential products are distributed annually, compared to 8,000 kilos 30 years ago," said Dany Michaud, Executive Director at Moisson Montréal. "In addition, our infrastructure and rigorous practices enable us to redistribute the equivalent of $18 of food for each dollar received. We are very proud of this and wish to thank the Montreal community by celebrating with them, as we owe them our success."
The official event, to be held on February 12, 2015, is a fundraising evening entitled Conserve, which will include a musical, artistic and dining experience hosted by Anne-Marie Withenshaw. Designed by LNDMRK, the first edition of this annual event is organized by a committee of philanthropists in partnership with evenko and will take place at the Virgin Mobile Corona Theatre. An exclusive art exhibition, culinary creations provided by food trucks, along with a variety of musical performances, will help guests celebrate the work of Moisson Montréal as the largest food bank in Canada. Beginning in December, two categories of tickets will be available and can be purchased online. Moisson Montréal invites the public to stay informed of the details regarding the celebrations on the following social media, using the hashtag #Conserve2015: Twitter: @MoissonMTL, Facebook: http://facebook.com/moissonmtl and Instagram: @Moissonmontreal.

Among the new features are interactive widgets for social media, a calendar of activities and a news section, where plenty of information will be added regularly.
About Moisson Montreal
A non-profit organization founded in 1984, Moisson Montréal is today the largest food bank in Canada. Through its centre for collecting, sorting and distributing emergency food assistance, the organization allocates nearly 1,000 tons of food per month to more than 200 accredited community organizations on the Island of Montreal. In turn, these organizations provide food assistance to 140,000 people, including more than 40,000 children. Moisson Montréal receives funding and supplies mainly through donations. Its operations require the collaboration of nearly 4,000 volunteers each year and result in the redistribution of about $75 million worth of groceries annually.
