- 3,241 trees planted, 277 bags of litter collected, and 2,595 volunteers who did something awesome for our land mark the second year of the Red Leaf Project -
TORONTO, Sept. 25, 2012 /CNW Telbec/ - Nearly 2,600 Canadians rolled up their sleeves and gave back to the land for the Molson Canadian Red Leaf Project, more than doubling the amount of volunteers from the previous year. Following a successful launch program in 2011, the Molson Canadian Red Leaf Project grew from 10 to 100 events across the country this summer. Passionate volunteers who came out to get their hands dirty planted more than 3,200 trees, removed nearly 280 bags of leaves and litter, more than 1,230 cubic metres of invasive species and almost 100 cubic metres of mulch.
"The increased participation in the Molson Canadian Red Leaf Project this year has again shown us that Canadians care deeply about the environment and want to make a difference," says Dave Bigioni, Senior Marketing Director, Molson Coors Canada. "The passion of last year's volunteers inspired us to expand the program this year, and we are so proud of the thousands of awesome Canadians that turned out in communities across Canada to make their backyards even better."
The good times and great rewards were well-received by many of the volunteers who attended the project events. Feedback was incredibly positive, including statements like "I wouldn't change a thing! Such a great initiative!" from one volunteer, and "Very engaging and entertaining!" from another.
Similar to last year's program, volunteers were rewarded with tickets to a local concert in appreciation for getting their hands dirty. Across the country, tickets were given away to amazing festivals such as Live at Squamish in BC, the Craven Country Jamboree in Saskatchewan and the Cavendish Beach Music Festival in PEI. For volunteers in Ontario, the reward came with an added bonus: tickets to see the Tragically Hip on September 29 in Toronto - an exclusive concert that will be attended only by those who earned tickets by volunteering for Molson Canadian Red Leaf Project events in the province.
To help organize the park projects, Molson Canadian once again partnered with Evergreen, a national charity that works with Canadians to create and sustain dynamic green spaces in communities across the country, by empowering Canadians to take a hands-on approach to their urban environments. Since 1991, Evergreen has worked to bring nature back to our cities and towns with funding, plant resources, nurseries, expert advice and organizing capacity.
"At Evergreen, we believe we can make a difference in helping the environment by bringing diverse groups of people together and engaging them to take action," says Evergreen CEO, Geoff Cape. "Molson Canadian Red Leaf Project events in Canada do just that, and help us bring our vision closer to reality. We're extremely happy with this year's program, and very proud to have been part of it again this year."

About the Molson Canadian Red Leaf Project:
The Molson Canadian Red Leaf Project is an initiative designed to positively impact the Canadian environment in communities from coast to coast, with the support of Evergreen, a national charity that makes cities more liveable. From May 27, 2012 to September 15, 2012, 100 volunteer-based community park projects will take place in towns and cities across Canada. To thank community members for getting their hands dirty restoring their local green spaces, Molson Canadian will give away local concert tickets to all volunteers. Volunteers can register at www.Facebook.com/MolsonCanadian.
Canadians can also support the Red Leaf Project through a PIN program at retail. With the purchase of a specially marked case of Molson Canadian, consumers will receive a PIN code. Enter the code at www.MolsonCanadian.ca for a chance to win concert tickets, and Molson Canadian will also make a donation to a park project on your behalf. The PIN code is printed on a seed-infused coaster that can be planted to grow a tree in your community.
