Moncton Magnetic Hill Zoo Amur Cat Exhibit gets top billing from Canada's Accredited Zoos and Aquariums

OTTAWA, Sept. 26, 2016 /CNW/ - Moncton's Magnetic Hill Zoo's Amur Cat Exhibit was awarded the prestigious Thomas R. Baines Award from Canada's Accredited Zoos and Aquariums (CAZA).

The Baines Award is the highest recognition of achievement granted by CAZA to member institutions for exhibit design, animal husbandry, education, or for other significant contributions to the zoo and aquarium field.

The 84,000-square foot Amur Cat exhibit features enclosures for the highly endangered Amur tiger, the critically endangered Amur leopard, barn owls, and many interpretive displays.

"In addition to creating a stimulating environment for the animals, the Amur Cat exhibit's naturalistic design and storyboard feel, make it an outstanding example of the evolving use of exhibit design by modern zoos and aquariums to help connect people to nature," said CAZA executive director Massimo Bergamini.

The exhibit was recognized at the CAZA Achievement Awards held at the closing of the CAZA annual conference held in Whitehorse from September 21 to 24.
