CALGARY, Oct. 21, 2013 /CNW/ - With consumer debt at a reported all-time high in Canada, there couldn't be a better time to celebrate Financial Literacy Month with some tips from the experts.
"Canadians have a lot of questions surrounding personal finances and we want to offer them solutions," says William Akoto, Marketing and Communications Manager for Money Mentors. "We're excited to be able to bring in some experts to speak about smart money management for individuals and families in today's economy."
November is Financial Literacy Month in Canada, a month dedicated to raising awareness about programs, resources, information and services to help Canadians understand and manage their personal finances. Money Mentors is the only not-for-profit debt and credit counselling agency based in Alberta promoting financial literacy throughout the province.
Money Mentors will host two FREE financial events in Edmonton and Calgary in November, featuring well-known Canadian financial experts and authors Kelley Keehn and Bruce Sellery.
Sellery is the author of the best selling book Moolala, one of the founding journalists of CTV's Business News Network and a personal finance contributor on CBC's hit show Lang & O'Leary.
Keehn is the author of eight books, a nationally syndicated columnist with CBC radio, a weekly columnist for the Globe and Mail and a personal finance expert for The Marilyn Denis Show.
"I'm very excited to be working with Money Mentors in celebration of Financial Literacy Month," says Sellery, who will shed some light on the four fundamental problems people deal with when it comes to their finances during his presentation. "In our society we make personal finances a much more complicated topic than it needs to be. What people really need is insight into why they do dumb things with their money, and I want to help them change their behaviours so they do smart things with their money instead. Money Mentors is a great fit for me because they really want to help people get a handle on their finances."
