CALGARY, Nov. 24, 2014 /CNW/ - Elementary and high school students across Alberta will have the chance to learn about money, savings and budgeting this November as part of Financial Literacy Month 2014.
Throughout November we will be going into over 70 Elementary classrooms in Alberta to give readings of Rock, Brock & The Savings Shock as part of our second annual Grade Four Reads program. We will also provide each student with an interactive piggy bank to build and save for future goals, and leave a copy of the book for the school's library.
High school students and community youth organizations will receive interactive presentations on budgeting, credit and debt to help them with their transition into post-secondary education and the workforce.
This is the second year in a row we have participated in youth financial literacy initiatives. Last year we went into nearly 80 Elementary and high schools doing Elementary school readings and high school presentations, and the program was a huge success, says Colleen Hochhausen, Director of Financial Literacy. "Due to last year's success Money Mentors has been invited by many schools throughout the province again to present similar presentations during Financial Literacy Month 2014."
We will also be hosting free motivational events in Edmonton on November 19 and Calgary on November 25 with guest speakers including Hayley Wickenheiser, Jane Rooney, and Lucie Tedesco. Free adult courses and tools will also be available in classrooms across Alberta and online. To find out more visit www.moneymentors.ca/learning-centre
