MONTREAL, Nov. 27, 2013 /CNW Telbec/ - Some 450 members of the Montreal business community gathered at Bonsecours Market on November 19 for Soirée Montréal Inc., a Fondation Montréal inc. benefit event.
The Montréal inc. Award, presented by Desjardins and the National Bank, was awarded by the business leaders in attendance to Félix Marzell and David Barabé of DIX au carré, which outperformed the other Fondation laureates over the past 12 months. HappyBox and Kristins Gifts were the other two finalists.
After a three-minute presentation of each of the finalists on stage, DIX au carré, a firm that designs and manufactures acrobatic and theatrical equipment for the entertainment industry, won over the audience.
"I'm particularly pleased that Greater Montréal Inc. has heeded the call to support entrepreneurship and encourage the emergence of a new generation of Montreal entrepreneurs. Companies like DIX au carré help make our community a better place, and it's important to get behind them and support their success," said Andrew T. Molson, chairman of the Foundation's board.
The Foundation's annual benefit event raised more than $252,000. Thanks to the generosity of donors, the $45,000 Jean-Guy Desjardins Grant was specially created as part of a tribute to Mr. Desjardins. The funds will be invested with promising young Montreal entrepreneurs in the form of grants and business start-up services.
Each year, 30 new companies that have distinguished themselves through the excellence of their business model, job creation potential, exposure for Montreal and the quality of their management teams are inducted into the Foundation following a rigorous selection process.
