MONTRÉAL, May 20, 2015 /CNW Telbec/ - The Mayor of Montréal, Denis Coderre, is pleased to announce that Montréal has been chosen as the host city for the Metropolis congress in 2017. Metropolis is an international association that brings together metropolises with more than one million inhabitants.
"We are pleased that Montréal has been chosen as the host city for the Metropolis congress in 2017. This event coincides with Montréal's 375th anniversary celebrations. Cities, and especially metropolises, are increasingly involved in international relations, and the fact that Montréal has been chosen to host the Metropolis congress strengthens our city's position as a leader in that field.
The prestigious Metropolis congress, which is held every three years, will bring together, in Montréal, representatives, experts and panellists from approximately 150 member cities from around the world, with global, pluralistic and inclusive city as a theme. The event will promote Montréal's reputation on the international scene.
Note that Montréal was among the 14 founding members of Metropolis in 1985 and that the association celebrates its 30th anniversary this year. Montréal acts as co-president of the association.
