MONTRÉAL, Nov. 10, 2015 /CNW Telbec/ - The new creation by Montréal Space for Life, aurōrae, is the result of many frigid nights spent filming the sky over Yellowknife, in the Northwest Territories, where the Northern Lights can be seen 240 nights a year on average. Starting on November 10, set to music by DJ Champion, these fascinating multihued shimmering curtains in the sky will light up the Milky Way Theatre. The 360° immersive show at the Rio Tinto Alcan Planetarium is the perfect end to this year's tribute to light at the Montréal Space for Life.
"Particles emitted by the Sun that overcome the blackness of night… the Northern Lights are one of the most beautiful and poetic natural phenomena. They fit perfectly into our approach at Montréal Space for Life, combining science, art and emotion to bring humankind closer to nature," said Charles-Mathieu Brunelle, Director of Montréal Space for Life.
Aurōrae, an original multimedia show
Filmmaker Philippe Baylaucq and Sébastien Gauthier, a member of the Montréal Space for Life team, put together some 179,000 images of the aurora borealis, those splendid shimmering curtains over northern skies, to create an exceptional immersive experience. The planetarium's science interpreters will explain the mysteries behind this extraordinary astronomical spectacle and the magnetic disturbances that cause it.
