MONTREAL, Sept. 28 /CNW Telbec/ - On September 27, 28 and 29, Montréal will be welcoming Délice, the Network of Good Food Cities Worldwide, for its Annual General Meeting. The network, created in 2007 at the initiative of the Mayor of Lyon, France, promotes and forges bonds between cities all over the world renowned for their gastronomic tradition, their professional know-how, the outstanding quality of their products and the wealth of their lifestyles where the culinary arts are concerned.
Montréal, at the urging of Mayor Gérald Tremblay, was a founding member of the network, which now numbers 18 cities. As a member, our city can style itself as an international "city of flavours." "Montréal is very pleased to welcome its fellow member cities for the first time. During their stay, delegates will have the opportunity to discover our city's many gastronomic assets and all its charms," noted Mayor Tremblay.
Following the Annual General Meeting, many of the delegates will take the time to explore our city. They will visit the Quartier de spectacles, the Quartier international, a brownlands repurposing project and the Montréal Harbourfront, and of course sample local delicacies.
Montréal is a very active member, and Tourisme Montréal has the mandate of representing the city on the network's decision-making bodies and taking part in promoting the association and assisting in its routine management. It is an opportunity for Montréal to showcase its gastronomic assets as a promotional tool, through partnerships with such experts in the field as the Institut de Tourisme et d'Hôtellerie du Québec (ITHQ).
"Our city's active participation in the Délice Network is another good example of Montréal's attractiveness in terms of the quality and diversity of the gastronomic experience it offers," says Charles Lapointe, President and CEO of Tourisme Montréal.
