Montreal will be the host of the Main Civil Society International Gathering on Adult Learning and Education Français

MONTREAL, Oct. 9, 2014 /CNW Telbec/ - The International Council of Adult Education (ICAE) and the Institut de coopération pour l'éducation des adultes (ICÉA), with the support of the Université de Montréal, are proud to announce the holding of the IXth World Assembly of Adult Education and Lifelong Learning, in Montreal, from June 11 to 14th, 2015.
The ICAE's World Assembly is the main civil society event that brings together youth and adult educators, along with learners from around the world every four years. For Alan Tuckett, the president of ICAE : "It is a celebration of the importance of adult education for the development of just and equitable societies".
The World Assembly will be held on the campus of the Université de Montréal, with the support of its Faculté de l'éducation permanente (FEP). For Mr. Christian Blanchette, Dean of the faculty, "Lifelong learning is part of our university's mission, as demonstrated by the existence of the FEP, for more than 40 years, and also by the public commitment of the Université de Montréal principal, M. Guy Breton."
Under the main theme Global commitments, local practices: Adult learning and education to create the world we want, the participants will discuss issues around five topics :
- Right to education and lifelong learning for all, beyond 2015; "
- Capacity building for advocacy;
- Role of adult learning and education for sustainable development;
- Adult learning and education, power relations and community engagement;
- Quality inclusive education for all.
Plenary sessions will have translation facilities in English, French and Spanish. Workshops will, where possible, be bi- or tri-lingual. A website www.waam2015.org is launched today and information will be available in the ICAE's three official languages.
