QUÉBEC CITY, Feb. 15, 2013 /CNW Telbec/ - The Quebec Wood Export Bureau (QWEB), in collaboration with the Quebec Forest Industry Council (QFIC), the Maritime Lumber Bureau (MLB) et the Ontario Forest Industries Association (OFIA) are delighted with the outcome of the 2013 Montréal Wood Convention, which ended today at the hotel Fairmont The Queen Elizabeth. The resumption of this traditional meeting between lumber purchasers and producers proved to be a success in terms not only of the number of registered participants but also of the quality of the featured speakers.
Considered as being one of the leading events for establishing lasting business relations, the Montréal Wood Convention brought together more than 500 participants from all over North America and around the world. The return of this event made it possible to renew ties with certain clients and generate business contacts that are vital for creating and maintaining alliances between buyers, lumber manufacturers and service providers.
For the occasion, numerous networking activities were organized with a view to sparking business relations between convention-goers. Some of the most highly appreciated of these activities were the "speed dating business" sessions between overseas purchasers and Canadian suppliers, the various cocktail receptions, and the exhibit hall showcasing major industry actors. On this basis, it can be said that the Montréal Wood Convention fully met the expectations of participants!
The event featured numerous highly regarded speakers, including Mr. Frank Dottori, former President-CEO and founder of Tembec, Mr. Don Roberts, Vice-Chairman of Wholesale Banking at CIBC and leader of the bank's Renewable Energy & Clean Technology Team, Mr. Michael Green, a well-known architect in British Columbia, and Dr. Gustavo Grodnitzky, a renowned psychologist from Colorado.
Thursday afternoon, convention-goers could sit in on an animated panel discussion between senior forest sector managers, including Mr. Marc Brinkmeyer (Idaho Forest Group), Mr. Rick Doman (Eacom Timber Corporation) and Mr. Charles Tardif (Maibec). Recognized for their significant involvement in the industry, these panelists voiced their optimistic vision of the future and potential of the forest sector.
