MONTREAL, Sept. 28, 2014 /CNW/ - The weather cooperated on Sunday, with the sun shining on the nearly 35,000 people, from 52 countries, participating in the different challenges in one of North America's top twenty races, the Montreal Oasis Rock 'n' Roll Marathon. Along with the delighted runners who crossed the finish line in Parc La Fontaine, organizers were very satisfied with the response on the ground. "Some people participate to meet ambitious personal goals, while others do it to push their limits, on their own or with friends. Our goal is to create an enjoyable and festive experience for them. This year, I think we can say "mission accomplished," declared the event's spokesperson, Ms. Dominique Arsenault.
Buoyed by record participation—for a 3rd straight year—and an enhanced race experience, the Montreal Oasis Rock 'n' Roll Marathon ventured into new territory, adding the P'tit Marathon Tel-Jeunes, making several logistical improvements, and bringing in new partners, such as Brasseurs RJ, the Quebec micro-brewery pioneer, and Journées de la Culture. Ms. Arsenault also emphasized the critical contribution from its various partners, sponsors and, of course, the city of Montreal. "Organizing this kind of event takes logistics and a demanding organizational structure. We could not have met our objectives without close collaboration from the city," Ms. Arsenault specified, adding that: "Supporter turnout along the course was impressive! Many participants noticed the exceptionally high level of encouragement along the course, and we thank the population for coming in such great numbers".
"This year's record participation has allowed us to fund raise $ 33,740 for the Fondation Tel-jeunes and it is with great pride that we have presented a check for that amount to Fondation Tel-jeunes' spokespeople Marina Orsini and Maxime Tremblay today," Ms. Arsenault noted in closing.
The 2014 marathon male and female champions are U.S.A.'s Ben Bruce and Quebec's Joanne Normand, with respective times of 2:22:38 and 3:01:27. The full list of winners will soon be available at: http://ca.competitor.com/en/montreal/resultats.
