Close to 250 000 spectators attended this grandiose event celebrating Montréal's 375th
MONTRÉAL, Sept. 1, 2017 /CNW Telbec/ - At 10:30 p.m. on Saturday, September 2, Montréal Avudo, the spectacular immersive show, will come to an end after 149 sold-out performances. Created exclusively for the celebrations, this magisterial work has been one of the biggest triumphs of Montréal's 375th celebrations: 249 900 people have seen it for free since it opened on May 17. It was such a smash hit that two additional series were added over the course of the summer, with tickets snapped up in record time.
Daniele Finzi Pasca, Montréal Avudo creator and cofounder of the Compagnia Finzi Pasca, who came up with this larger-than-life work, will be present for the finale. He wanted to personally thank the public for embracing the show so enthusiastically, and will present a short behind-the-scenes video that was shot while Montréal Avudo was being made. The show immersed Montrealers and visitors in the history of the St. Lawrence River, thanks to major on-water installations.
Montréal Avudo's spectacular character and top-notch delivery drew praise from both national and international press.
"Projections take over the west sector of the Old Port, with archive images, original documents and 3D animations projected onto installations, including water walls (using jets from fountains to create screens of water) and an 11-storey shipping container tower — bringing history to life." - June 15, 2017. The Star, Toronto.
"When France's favourite Québécois city celebrates its 375th birthday, we're there!" - May 23, 2017. Biba Magazine, France.
''From May 17 to September 2 at the King Edward Quay in Montréal's Old Port, Montréal Avudo pays creative homage to the St. Lawrence River. '' - May 31, 2017. Latitudes Life, Italy.
Carrying out a project of this size and scope demanded a colossal amount of work in terms of research, design and rehearsals from the members of the Compagnia Finzi Pasca.
About the Compagnia Finzi Pasca
Founded by Antonio Vergamini, Daniele Finzi Pasca, Hugo Gargiulo, Julie Hamelin Finzi and Maria Bonzanigo, the Compagnia Finzi Pasca is based in Lugano and Montréal. It boasts five international touring shows, including the La Verità, Donka, Bianco su Bianco, Icaro and Per Te. In addition to its touring shows, the company's team of artists has produced creative projects in parallel, such as the Vevey Winegrowers Festival in Switzerland in 2019, the closing ceremonies for the Turin and Sochi Olympic Games and the opening ceremony of the Sochi Paralympic Games, different operas in London, Toronto, Saint Petersburg and Naples (L'Amour de loin, Aïda, Requiem de Verdi, Pagliacci, Carmen), collaborations with the Cirque du Soleil (Corteo, Luzia), with the Cirque Éloize's Sky Trilogy (Nomade, Rain, Nebbia). The company's unique aesthetic is reflected in a creative approach and style of directing that is born of a desire to develop artistic projects that broaden the "Theatre of the caress", a technique based on the invisible gesture and the state of lightness. It is visible in the particular manner the artists conceive a production, the training philosophy for the actor, acrobat, musician, dancer and technician, as well as the way spaces are inhabited and memories accessed, and nostalgia and emotion are triggered.
