More than $550,000 for Haute-Mauricie through the Canada 150 Community Infrastructure Program

Government of Canada supports La Tuque community projects

LA TUQUE, QC, July 6, 2017 /CNW/ - Canada Economic Development for Quebec Regions (CED)

Acting on behalf of the Honourable Navdeep Bains, Minister of Innovation, Science and Economic Development and Minister responsible for CED, the Honourable François-Philippe Champagne, Member of Parliament for Saint-Maurice–Champlain and Minister of International Trade, announced that three La Tuque organizations have been granted a total of $555,748 in financial assistance, in the form of non-repayable contributions.

Key local stakeholders have long been asking for concrete, sustainable measures to improve community and recreational infrastructure. As part of the Canada 150 celebrations, the Government of Canada is proud to support projects like these, which contribute to the strength and vitality of all regions of the country.

The Centre d'amitié autochtone La Tuque (website in French only) has been awarded $500,000 to renovate the Parc du Lac Saint-Louis community centre. The project will help enhance a beautiful site and its environment, providing a place for people to get together, while highlighting the richness of the Indigenous presence. The centre, which will be renovated and fit up in an environmentally responsible manner, offers recreational and cultural activities, helps Indigenous people enter the labour market and creates sustainable jobs.

The Club Nautique La Tuquois has been granted $30,000 to improve infrastructure for accessing the Saint-Maurice River to ensure the safety and durability of the access. More specifically, the dock and a boat launch ramp were repaired and the site was developed.

Club BMX La Tuque received $25,748 in financial assistance to improve the BMX bike track in Parc des Érables. The work is mainly geared to preventing erosion on the site, while limiting sedimentation and annoyances for the area's residents, to ensure the safety of users and to maximize use of the grounds, which are open to the public free of charge.

Funding awarded through the Canada 150 Community Infrastructure Program (CIP150) will help the residents of Haute-Mauricie and all Canadians access safe, comfortable new facilities at the Parc du Lac Saint-Louis community centre, the Club nautique La Tuquois and the Club BMX La Tuque.

CED is one of the six regional development agencies under the responsibility of the Honourable Navdeep Bains, Minister of Innovation, Science and Economic Development.
