TORONTO, Nov. 22, 2013 /CNW/ - With the addition of three Ontario Lottery and Gaming Corporation (OLG) gaming facilities, a total of 13 sites and one gaming resort facility have now earned RG Check accreditation. The three latest sites to be recognized by the most rigorous Responsible Gambling (RG) accreditation program in the world are OLG Slots at Georgian Downs, OLG Slots at Kawartha Downs and OLG Casino Thousand Islands.
"Our employees work hard to provide players with information to help them moderate their play and make healthy decisions," said Rod Phillips, President and CEO, OLG. "Achieving the RG Check accreditation reflects our employees' continued dedication to our customers."
Ten other gaming facilities have previously earned the RG Check accreditation, including:
- OLG Slots at Western Fair District;
- OLG Casino Point Edward;
- OLG Slots at Dresden Raceway;
- OLG Casino Brantford;
- OLG Slots at Mohawk Racetrack;
- OLG Slots at Woodstock Raceway;
- OLG Casino Sault Ste. Marie;
- OLG Casino Thunder Bay;
- OLG Slots at Ajax Downs; and
- OLG Slots at Sudbury Downs.
In addition, Caesars Windsor was the first casino resort property in the world to achieve this accreditation.
"More than half of our gaming facilities now have the RG Check accreditation," said Phillips. "We will continue to work towards achieving RG Check accreditation at each of our sites."
Administered by the Responsible Gambling Council (RGC), the RG Check accreditation program is based on an RG Index comprising a set of RGC standards. Informed by international best practices, this Index evaluates eight core standards: corporate policies, self-exclusion, advertising and promotion, informed decision making, assisting patrons who may have problems with gambling, access to money, venue and game features, and employee training.
"The Responsible Gambling Council researched gambling safeguards around the world to ensure that these standards were the most comprehensive and rigorous anywhere," said RGC CEO, Jon Kelly. "The RG Index was developed and refined over many years and is the most stringent available today."
As OLG continues with modernization, it will be focused on maintaining a gold standard in its RG programs. In the future, private sector operators will take over the day-to-day operations of lottery and gaming in Ontario. They will be required to adhere to rigorous external standards like the RG Check as well as the regulations of the Alcohol and Gaming Commission of Ontario.
"When it comes to Responsible Gambling, there is always room for improvement," said Phillips. "That's why we will continue to pursue the highest standard when it comes to our RG programming."
OLG is a provincial agency responsible for province-wide lottery games and gaming facilities. Since 1975, OLG has provided nearly $38 billion to the Province and the people of Ontario. OLG's annual payments to the Province have helped support health care; education, research, prevention and treatment of problem gambling; amateur sport through the QUEST FOR GOLD program; and local and provincial charities.
