Short film about students of Morneau Shepell Secondary School for Girls in Kenya honoured at Boston College Center for Corporate Citizenship film festival
TORONTO, April 24, 2020 /CNW/ - Today, Morneau Shepell announced that its Kakuma Hope film won in the medium-company category of the International Corporate Citizenship Film Festival (ICCFF). The Boston College Center for Corporate Citizenship, which organized the film festival, announced the winners on its blog on April 23, 2020.
Located in northwestern Kenya, the Kakuma Refugee Camp is home to more than 196,000 people who were forced to flee their homes due to violence, persecution and war. With financial support from Morneau Shepell and in partnership with the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR), the Morneau Shepell Secondary School for Girls is a safe haven for students in the region. More than 350 students are enrolled in the boarding school and 290 students have graduated since the school opened in 2014. Kakuma Hope is the story of the young women at the school and their hope of furthering their education in order to make a difference in the world.
"We are proud to share the stories of such incredible young women who are a big part of the Morneau Shepell family. They inspire us every day to work toward our goal of improving one billion lives, as they are doing that for their own communities," said Stephen Liptrap, president and chief executive officer, Morneau Shepell. "We are grateful for everyone who voted for Kakuma Hope and congratulate all the film festival finalists."
The ICCFF is the largest film festival in the world devoted exclusively to celebrating the work and storytelling of corporate social responsibility professionals, their companies, and programs.
"It was the biggest honour of my career to be asked to join the 2019 Morneau Shepell expedition to Kakuma to make a short film about the Morneau Shepell Secondary School for Girls," said Caroline True, creative director, Morneau Shepell. "My hope for the students now and in years to come is that their dreams become a reality. We met an aspiring poet, journalist, doctor, lawyer, surgeon, restauranteur, business woman and more – all of whom have the determination and tenacity to make their dreams come true."
