International EAPA award recognizes the largest trauma intervention ever deployed in Canada
TORONTO, Nov. 2, 2016 /CNW/ - Morneau Shepell (TSX: MSI) today announced that the International Employee Assistance Professionals Association (EAPA) has recognized Morneau Shepell with the award for Best Delivery of or Innovation in Critical Incident Response Services. The honour recognizes the Company's response in assisting the trauma victims of the Fort McMurray wildfire disaster this past spring.
In response to overwhelming trauma in the area due to the wildfires, Morneau Shepell rapidly deployed the largest trauma support intervention ever seen in Canada to the people in and around Fort McMurray. The Company worked closely with emergency response organizations and clients in the area as its counsellors responded to calls that came into its Employee and Family Assistance Program (EFAP) care access centres and set up operations on the ground. Because of the severity of the situation and the community need, Morneau Shepell also opened up support to the community at large with a 24/7 national crisis line for any Canadian affected by the fires.
"It's an honour to receive this award in recognition of our response to the disaster in Fort McMurray this past spring," said Stephen Liptrap, Chief Operating Officer at Morneau Shepell. "The massive outpouring of kindness and compassion we saw from Canadians across the country was inspirational and certainly a testament to the character of our nation. We are proud that our organization provides this very important support in times of crisis and desperate need, and that we were able to help."
The award was presented to Paul Wittes, Director, National and Global Clinical Services, Morneau Shepell, at the Annual World EAP Conference, which is taking place in Chicago, October 31 through to November 3, 2016. The EAPA's annual awards program recognizes and celebrates the achievement of individuals and organizations who have distinguished themselves through their contributions to the employee assistance profession. The EAPA is the world's largest, oldest, and most respected membership organization for employee assistance professionals.
