Morningstar Announces Canadian Investment Award Winners for 2010

Annual awards recognize leaders in the Canadian financial services industry

TORONTO, Dec. 1 /CNW/ - Morningstar (Nasdaq: MORN), has announced the winners of the Morningstar
Canadian Investment Awards. Tonight's ceremony, held at the Fairmont Royal York Hotel in Toronto,
marked the 16th edition of Canada's premier annual awards event for investment products. Morningstar
acquired the Canadian Investment Awards and Gala in 2009.

With CBC's Peter Mansbridge as Master of Ceremonies and more than 500 guests in attendance, the
evening honoured companies and individuals that have made a difference in the lives of investors through
superior investment products, service, and education.

The awards recognize superior leadership in the investment industry and represent Canada's wide range of
investment products, including mutual funds, pooled funds, and hedge funds. Additional awards recognize
outstanding individual managers, career achievement, technology, discount brokerage, and marketing. The
awards were determined by panels of industry experts. The focus was on longer-term track records, as
opposed to simply awarding the best performers over the past year.

This year, Morningstar partnered with MusiCounts, the Canadian music-education charity associated with
The Canadian Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences, the organization behind the nationally televised
JUNO Awards. MusiCounts' mission is to provide students with access to comprehensive music programs
in Canadian schools. Proceeds from submissions-based awards were donated to MusiCounts at the award
ceremony.

The award winners include:

Morningstar Equity Fund Manager of the Year Award
Winner: Jim Hall, Chairman and Director of Research, Mawer Investment Management Ltd., Calgary,
Alberta

"Jim Hall's track record, not only over the past year but over the long haul is outstanding," said David
O'Leary, director of fund analysis for Morningstar Canada. "While we looked primarily at Mawer Canadian
Equity to evaluate his performance, he is responsible for building a lot of the research processes across all
of the Mawer funds. His effective risk management is evidenced by how he did through the downturn and
the ensuing rally."

Morningstar Fixed Income Fund Manager of the Year Award
Winner: TD Asset Management Fixed Income Team, TD Asset Management Inc.

"We like that the team has a rigorous, disciplined, and methodical approach to fixed- income investing,"
O'Leary said. "The managers have strong systems in place to evaluate the risk in their funds, and they
carefully monitor it. We think they have a repeatable process, which is reflected in their strong long-term
performance."

Morningstar Fund Manager of the Decade Award
Winner: Eric Bushell, Senior Vice-President, Portfolio Management and Chief Investment Officer of
Signature Global Advisors, a division of CI Investments Inc.

"Eric Bushell was the Morningstar Equity Fund Manager of the Year in 2009," O'Leary said. "When you look
over 10 years, he has been a very consistent performer and has done a great job managing risk. He has
also been responsible for the architecture of a strong, credible team that manages more than $24 billion in
total assets across the Signature line of funds. In any given year, you might overlook him, but when you
look over the long term, he has outperformed the overwhelming majority of his competitors."

Analysts' Choice Investment Fund Company of the Year Award
Winner: Dynamic Funds
Silver: CI Investments Inc.
Bronze: RBC Global Asset Management Inc.

This award is chosen by the Investment Fund Analyst Committee, which includes analysts from across the
industry and Morningstar. The criteria include performance, risk management, breadth of offerings,
investor and advisor education, fund governance, and communication to investors.

Advisors' Choice Investment Fund Company of the Year Award
Winner: Dynamic Funds

This award is voted on by Canadian advisors. Mutual fund, hedge fund or other investment fund companies
qualify. Advisors consider quality and range of products, performance, fees, service, education, community
investment, and management.

Career Achievement Award
Winner: John W. Kellett

Kellett was honoured for his more than four decades of distinguished service in the investment industry.
Currently with Scotia Asset Management L.P., he was a long-time employee of the RBC organization and a
founding partner of what now is Royal Bank Investment Management. His award also reflects his many
community service activities.
