Joshua Sprigg is the national winner in the "Snap it!" category
MOUNT ALBERT, ON, June 14, 2017 /CNW/ - Joshua Sprigg of Mount Albert Public School is the national winner of the 2017 Canada Day Challenge in the "Snap it!" category. The other 2017 winners are Emily Zbaraschuk, of Prince Albert, Saskatchewan, in the "Write it!" category and Fiona Tung of Markham, Ontario, in the "Draw it!" category.
Joshua submitted a photo under the theme "Celebrate Your Future." It shows a young Cree child who creates the shadow of a bird on the ground while dancing. Wanting to express his hope for the future, he said about his work: "It is now my turn to carry on the traditions, as well as learn new traditions as we welcome new Canadians and cultures to our land."
Joshua and his mother have been invited to visit Canada's Capital Region as of June 27 to participate in Canada Day celebrations, which are taking place on Parliament Hill as part of Canada 150. Joshua and the other winners will have the opportunity to visit Parliament, museums and national historical sites during their visit, thanks to the support of official collaborators. His entry will also be displayed at the Canadian Museum of History from June to September. Additionally, he will receive an iPad from the National Film Board of Canada (NFB) and will have the opportunity to work with a team of experts from the NFB to produce his own short film.
