QUEBEC, Jan. 31, 2013 /CNW Telbec/ - While assembled in Quebec last January 30th, the Chiefs of the Assembly of First Nations of Quebec and Labrador (AFNQL) re-elected Mr. Ghislain Picard to the position of Chief of the AFNQL.
The Chief of the AFNQL would like to thank Chief Lloyd Phillips for having presented his nomination and insists on underlining the importance and relevance of his participation on the Chiefs' table.
"I would like to express my gratitude to the Chiefs for their vote of confidence. I am undertaking this eighth mandate with the same conviction and with as much, if not more, enthusiasm. Everywhere across Canada, the First Nations peoples are sending us a very clear message, particularly through the Idle No More movement. The time has come to take action. Our Chiefs' table has fully understood this message and I am committed to this direction now more than ever", declared Mr. Picard.
"One of my short-term priorities will be to continue to focus on the process undertaken with the Quebec government following the Summit on territories and resources held with Premier Marois last December 3rd. The stakes are vital for both the development of our First Nations as well as Quebec as a whole", stated the Chief of the AFNQL.
