MONTREAL, May 31, 2016 /CNW Telbec/ - Last Sunday, nearly 5,000 people gathered in 17 cities across Quebec for the 22nd annual MS Walk organized by the Multiple Sclerosis Society of Canada and presented by Sanofi Genzyme. Thanks to the efforts of all the participants and donors, this year's event raised $1,130,560! Since this annual fundraiser began, over $17.5 million has been raised to fund research and provide services to people with multiple sclerosis (MS).

The MS Walk is a festive rally and the major fundraiser for the MS Society of Canada's Quebec Division. This year, Debbie Lynch-White, the provincial spokesperson for the MS Walk, attended the Montreal event. "The MS Walk was held in a congenial, fun atmosphere. I would like to thank all the participants throughout Quebec who formed teams, collected pledges and came out to walk today for people with MS. Thanks to all these people, over a million dollars was raised and I believe that we can do even better next year. See you again on May 28, 2017!"
Outstanding partners
The MS Society of Canada once again received the support and generous contribution of Sanofi Genzyme, title sponsor of the 22nd annual MS Walk. This partner's support is essential to the success of the event. The MS Society also wants to thank its provincial partner, AG Natural Health Ltd., and the national partner, the Air Canada Foundation: without them the event would not have been such a success.
About multiple sclerosis
Canada has the highest rate of multiple sclerosis in the world. MS is a chronic, often disabling disease of the central nervous system comprising the brain, spinal cord and optic nerve. It is one of the most common neurological diseases affecting young adults in Canada. Most people with MS are diagnosed between the ages of 15 and 40, and the unpredictable effects of MS last for the rest of their lives. The MS Society provides services to people with MS and their families and funds research to find the cause and cure for this disease.
