MONTREAL, May 27, 2016 /CNW Telbec/ - On Sunday, May 29, 2016, Quebec's 22nd annual MS Walk will be held. Organized by the Multiple Sclerosis Society of Canada and sponsored by Sanofi Genzyme, the Walk's ultimate goal is to end MS. Thousands of people will participate in 17 cities across Quebec to raise funds for MS research and to provide services for people affected by the disease.
Debbie Lynch-White, actress and provincial spokesperson for the event for the third consecutive year, invites everyone to come and walk for the cause. "MS is a very important cause for me. My father lived with MS, and now I am proud to be part of this great fundraiser, both as a walker and as spokesperson. I am motivated by the hope that a cure for MS will be found. I ask all Quebecers to raise as much money as possible to fund research so that we can finally end MS!" Debbie Lynch-White will attend the Montreal MS Walk.
People who wish to participate in the MS Walk can register at the site on the day of the event.
MS Walk: an event not to be missed!
The MS Walk is a festive event that draws people with MS, their friends and families for an unforgettable experience in support of the same dream: a future without MS. The MS Walk is the biggest fundraising event organized by the MS Society's Quebec Division. Last year, over 4,700 Quebecers walked for the cause. Together, they raised more than $1 million. The funds are used for state-of-the-art research on multiple sclerosis and to provide support services and information to Quebecers who are affected by this disease, regardless of where they live.
This year's MS Walk will be held in the following cities in Quebec:
- Alma
- Baie-Comeau
- Blainville
- Dollard-des-Ormeaux
- Drummondville
- Gatineau
- Laval
- Lévis
- Longueuil
- Montreal
- Quebec City
- Repentigny
- Rimouski
- Saguenay
- Saint-Jérôme
- Sherbrooke
- Trois-Rivières
This event has been made possible by the support of the following partners: Sanofi Genzyme, AG Natural Health Ltd. and the Air Canada Foundation.
Sanofi Genzyme has been an MS Walk partner for three years. "Motivated by our commitment to patients, we endeavour to create close ties with them and listen to them to understand their needs. This collaboration guides us as we develop treatments for diseases that medicine is still unable to cure. Knowing that the MS Walk provides assistance to people with MS, their families and their caregivers, Genzyme is particularly proud to be involved," said Ross Glover, Head of MS Franchise at Sanofi Genzyme.
About multiple sclerosis
Canada has the highest rate of multiple sclerosis in the world. MS is a chronic, often disabling disease of the central nervous system comprising the brain, spinal cord and optic nerve. It is one of the most common neurological diseases affecting young adults in Canada. Most people with MS are diagnosed between the ages of 15 and 40, and the unpredictable effects of MS last for the rest of their lives. The MS Society provides services to people with MS and their families and funds research to find the cause and cure for this disease.
