Mt. Norquay Opens for Skiing October 25 - First Resort to Open in Canada

2012-2013 Ski and Snowboard Season Officially Kicks Off in Banff National Park

BANFF, AB, Oct. 24, 2012 /CNW/ - Banff National Park is on track for another record breaking ski season as Mt. Norquay marks its earliest opening in its 87 year history. Already boasting one of the longest ski seasons in North America and on the heels of last year's 34 feet of snowfall in the park, Mt. Norquay is Canada's first ski resort to open this year.

Located just minutes from the town of Banff, Mt. Norquay will start turning their first lift at 12 noon Thursday, October 25, 2012. Over 30 cm of natural snow in the past week has combined with perfect temperatures to serve up prime early season conditions. Norquay will also be open 10am-4pm Friday, Saturday, and Sunday.

Banff National Park is home to three of the world's finest ski resorts; Mt. Norquay, The Lake Louise Ski Area and Sunshine Village. The three resorts offer almost 8,000 acres of skiable terrain on one convenient, tri-area lift ticket. All will be featuring exciting developments this season including a tri-area sightseeing pass, a new tubing park, big air bag jump and outstanding new guest services.

Scheduled to open just behind Mt. Norquay is The Lake Louise Ski Area and Sunshine Village with opening dates currently set for November 9^th.

The Lake Louise Winterstart World Cup takes place November 24-25 for the men's events and November 30-December 1 for the women's events. The world's fastest skiers will compete in downhill and super-G in the heart of the Canadian Rocky Mountains, where reliable early season conditions and dry, light snow are hallmarks.
