MTS Data Centres offer customers data security and reliability
MTS opens $53 million facility, Manitoba's first Tier III data centre
WINNIPEG, Sept. 14, 2015 /CNW/ - (TSX: MBT) MTS, Manitoba's leading full-service telecommunications provider, today officially opened the MTS Data Centres Waverley facility.
"This is the most advanced commercial data centre in Manitoba," said Chief Executive Officer Jay Forbes. "MTS Data Centres offer reliable, secure, and flexible IT solutions providing peace of mind so customers can focus on growing their business. This facility reinforces MTS and Epic Information Solutions as the complete Information and Communications Technology solution and the trusted advisor for business in Manitoba."
Forbes was joined at the unveiling by Minister of Finance Greg Dewar and Mayor Brian Bowman. "This Data Center will create good innovative jobs for young Manitobans to build their futures in Manitoba," said Dewar. "We are a hub for innovation and this centre builds on our momentum. These are the jobs of tomorrow that are being created right here in Manitoba."
"As Mayor, I am pleased to see MTS, a strong local company, invest in Winnipeg's economic future and roll out the welcome mat to IT businesses that also want to invest in our city," said Mayor Bowman. "The new state-of-the-art MTS Data Centres will support a growing technology sector in our city, and encourage more innovation and collaboration that will positively impact our community."
Manitoba's suitability to data management and co-location services is due to its stable, cooler climate, lower energy costs and central location, all of which appeal to risk-averse, data-dependent business customers. "The province is ideally placed to become a hub for cloud-computing services," said Forbes.
"The MTS Data Centres facility is designed to meet the highest standards in reliability and security," added Forbes. "MTS Data Centres can remain fully operational under virtually any circumstance, including equipment maintenance, replacement or disaster. It is equipped to generate its own power in the event its hydro-electrical supply is interrupted." This diligence in design has garnered Uptime Institute's Tier III Design Certification, the globally recognized benchmark for evaluating the design, performance, reliability and efficiency of mission-critical data centre infrastructure.
The 64,000 square feet facility was built in accordance with Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) standards and can accommodate up to 800 cabinets of IT equipment. The facility boasts multiple connections to MTS's high-capacity telecommunications networks that provide connectivity throughout Manitoba and across Canada. Customers are already installed and using the facility to support their critical IT infrastructure.
