Changes benefit wireless customers across Manitoba

WINNIPEG, Nov. 27, 2013 /CNW/ - MTS, Manitoba's leading full-service telecommunications provider, is making changes to better serve its wireless customers and comply with the CRTC's Wireless Code of Conduct. The Wireless Code, which expands on existing provincial consumer protection legislation in Manitoba, comes into effect on December 2, 2013.
"We are committed to helping our customers find the wireless solution that works best for them," said MTS President Kelvin Shepherd. "That includes a great wireless plan backed by the leading provider of wireless services in Manitoba."
MTS has previously implemented many consumer-friendly measures, including:
- offering unlimited wireless data plans, which allow customers to use their smartphone in Manitoba without having to worry about overage charges;
- giving customers the flexibility to choose a variety of contract terms, including 24-month, 12-month and month-to-month options;
- using reader-friendly language in wireless contracts terms and conditions; and,
- unlocking postpaid wireless devices for a nominal fee, allowing customers who are travelling abroad to connect to a local carrier by either purchasing a local SIM card or reprogramming their device.
This past year, MTS has taken further steps to improve the customer's wireless experience. In August, MTS eliminated 36-month wireless contracts and introduced new, improved two-year pricing plans.
Starting December 2, MTS will introduce further enhancements to meet the requirements outlined in the Wireless Code. For example, MTS will provide customers with alerts that notify them when their data use surpasses defined thresholds, which will help customers manage their data consumption when travelling outside of Manitoba. Also, MTS will provide wireless contracts in alternative formats upon request, including braille, large font, and PDF.
"Our focus is on providing excellent customer service," added Shepherd. "The steps we've taken most recently to implement the measures in the Wireless Code are consistent with this commitment."
