Municipal Campaign Website Designed to Cover Hundreds of Municipal Races.
TORONTO, Jan. 7, 2014 /CNW/ - The next municipal election for Ontario is set for October 27th of this year and as of January 2nd, candidates in each of the 444 municipalities in Ontario can officially register as a candidate in their community. Municipal 101, Canada's leading source on municipal politics, is excited to be covering races in every municipality across Ontario.
"We are building an online community focused on Canadian municipal elections. Our goal is to foster greater dialogue at the community level and engage voters with as much information as possible so they can make informed decisions for the future of their community", said Municipal 101 spokesman Peter Seemann. He claims that since launching in October of last year, they have received very positive responses from both incumbent municipal politicians and challengers.
"One of the main problems with voter turnout is because few people have enough information. This kind of site will help for sure. I'll definitely let others know about the site." - Mike Cluett, Town of Milton Councillor Ward 6
"Local government has a real impact but often doesn't get the attention of Federal and Provincial politics. This is a great platform to engage the community I'm running to represent." - Dean French, future Candidate, Toronto Ward 3
On Municipal 101's website, incumbents and new challengers can announce their candidacy; build their online profiles; stake out their issues and platforms; and most importantly, communicate directly with voters in an online forum. Municipal 101 will offer voters a unique opportunity not only to learn about candidates within their communities, but endorse them, monitor their social media channels, keep tabs on community news, and initiate discussions with them at the grassroots level.
"The best part of the online community is that we are providing the service for free! Candidates will be able to promote their candidacy and gain access to various campaign services that will help them win their election. Interested voters in every community will have access to an unrivalled database of information unlike anything currently existing in Canada" said Seemann.
