Muslim Association of Canada Urges Tolerance and Understanding following Vancouver Incident
MISSISSAUGA, Jan. 9, 2016 /CNW/ - The Muslim Association of Canada (MAC) issued the following statement regarding the incident at MAC's community centre in Vancouver:
"As one of the largest Muslim organizations in Canada, we continue to urge tolerance and understanding in communities across Canada.
On the evening of January 8th, following a MAC reception welcoming Syrian refugees, an unknown assailant attacked attendees with pepper spray causing several injuries. The incident outside of the centre in Vancouver is regrettable, and we urge law enforcement to take swift action against the perpetrator.
However, it is important to note that this incident is dwarfed by the level of generosity and welcome from Canadians across the country. Canadians of all walks, up to Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, have welcomed refugees and chosen tolerance.
As Canadians, we will continue to draw on our shared values to reject this violence and send a clear message to individuals and groups that seek to divide us."
