National Accounting Firm Strengthens Presence in Oshawa
MNP and RMJJ Join Forces to Benefit Marketplace with Enhanced Services
CALGARY, Nov. 26, 2018 /CNW/ - MNP, Canada's fifth largest national accounting and business consulting firm, announced today that Roberts, Marlowe, Jackson, Jackson & Associates (RMJJ), an Oshawa-based accounting firm, will merge with MNP, effective January 1, 2019. While RMJJ was looking to deliver more specialty services to the marketplace and provide clients with enhanced national resources, MNP was looking to build upon its existing presence in Oshawa. The new office will enhance the services MNP offers to clients across the Durham Region and is a further example of the firm's fast-growth story across Eastern Canada.
Founded in 1958, MNP has grown to more than 70 locations across Canada and delivers diverse services and specialized expertise in every sector and area of business. Not only is MNP the largest of the mid-market focused firms in Canada, it has continued to maintain its Canadian roots, helping Canadian businesses at home and abroad.
With six partners and 18 professional and support staff, RMJJ is one of the largest full-service chartered professional accounting firms in Oshawa, providing corporate tax services, assurance services, personal and estate tax services, tax compliance and general services, and bookkeeping services to a diverse range of businesses throughout the Durham Region since 1974. Their client base includes owner-managed businesses across a wide range of industries (including agriculture, construction, professionals, finance, real estate and construction, manufacturing, not-for-profit, transportation, wholesale and retail trade, hospitality, leisure, marketing and communications, printing, sports).
"Businesses today operate in ever-changing market conditions that impact how they do business – and that includes our own firm," explained Glenn Smith, Partner at RMJJ. "We are always looking at new ways to help our clients achieve their goals, so one of our own goals is to enhance the service we offer businesses in the Durham Region. By joining MNP we can add more local and national resources, more specialized services and a broader range of industry expertise and experiences - all of which will provide our clients with even greater value in the future. It's a great example of how two firms can come together to give our clients the edge they need to stay competitive and overcome current business and industry challenges."
Smith, who will become MNP's Office Managing Partner for Oshawa, added that one of the deciding factors in deciding to join MNP was the culture. "Although MNP is a large national firm, it's always been known for being local in focus with a small-firm culture and commitment to supporting the local communities that its teams live and work in. We knew the local MNP team and were convinced that joining the firm would be a good fit for our clients and our team. We are really excited about the future! To join a firm with the depth of resources that MNP offers, while maintaining our local focus is truly a unique and exceptional opportunity."
Jeremy Cole, Executive Vice President, Ontario, Quebec and Atlantic Canada, MNP, said bringing in the RMJJ team and expanding MNP's presence in the Durham Region was an ideal fit in terms of MNP's strategic plans for expansion. "The 401 corridor is a vital artery in Ontario's continued success. In the last year alone we've added offices from Cornwall to Kingston to London – and now we're expanding our presence in Oshawa. As we continue to grow our firm to serve the needs of our clients, we are excited to welcome a well-established accounting firm that shares our values and client-centric approach," said Cole.
MNP first entered the Ontario market in the summer of 2008 and since that time has grown to 25 locations in Eastern Canada, while continuing to look for like-minded firms and professionals who can help it build on its strategic plans for continued growth.
"We have been looking to grow on our existing presence in the Durham Region for some time," added Cole. "The area offers a stable and diverse economy that is recognized as being an education and health sciences hub, and downtown Oshawa has been identified by the Government of Ontario as an Urban Growth Centre as part of its Places to Grow initiative. We are excited about our opportunity to play an even bigger part in the region's growth story, as we build on our existing presence and look forward to helping more businesses in the area reach their full potential."
In addition to tax and accounting expertise, MNP delivers a diverse range of advisory services, including consulting, enterprise risk, corporate finance, valuation and litigation support, succession planning, insolvency and restructuring, investigative and forensic accounting, technology solutions and cyber security, cross-border taxation and much more.
"As part of MNP, our clients will benefit from access to hundreds of MNP professionals and specialists across more than 70 Canadian locations coast to coast, as well as more than 40,000 professionals in over 100 countries globally through its Praxity alliance," added Smith.
MNP credits its strategic mergers and acquisitions, organic growth, value-added services and values-led culture with catapulting the firm to the highest year-over-year growth rates of any of Canada's top accounting firms.
"To maintain our culture, we have been very strategic about who we invite to join our family," said Cole. "Both MNP's and RMJJ's cultures and values are well-aligned and we share the same entrepreneurial approach to doing business. It's truly a win-win for both our firms and for the Oshawa area and Durham Region marketplace. We are thrilled to have found the perfect firm in RMJJ to join forces with - one that puts clients first."
