OTTAWA, May 1, 2013 /CNW/ - The member airlines of the National Airlines Council of Canada (NACC) support keeping the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) in its permanent seat of Montreal. A specialized agency of the United Nations, ICAO was created in 1944 to promote the safe and orderly development of international civil aviation throughout the world.
"Montreal has been an outstanding home for the global aviation community since 1946. It is important to note that Montreal also hosts major aviation organisations that work closely with ICAO, including the International Air Transport Association, Airports Council International and the International Business Aviation Council, thus maximizing synergies as a global aviation hub. Our members believe that ICAO is exceptionally well served by Montreal's aviation expertise, its world-class facilities and its proximity to the U.N. in New York. There is no question that Montreal is an ideal host", said George Petsikas, President of the NACC.
NACC member airlines work closely with ICAO in many areas such as aviation safety, security, efficiency and aviation environmental issues.
The National Airlines Council of Canada (NACC) is the trade association representing Canada's largest national and international passenger air carriers: Air Canada, Air Transat, Jazz Aviation LP and WestJet. We promote safe, sustainable and competitive air travel through the development of policies, regulations and legislation that foster a world-class transportation system. Collectively, our member airlines carry over 50 million passengers annually and directly employ 43,000 people and create over 260,000 jobs.
