Hundreds of Bank employees pedal in support of youth organizations
MONTREAL, July 10, 2015 /CNW Telbec/ - For the fifth edition of the One for Youth Bicycle Tour, taking place July 10 to 12, National Bank employees will pedal more than 300 km to support young people. They have already cycled through Saguenay-Lac-Saint-Jean, Centre-du-Québec, Lanaudière and the Laurentians, Chaudière-Appalaches, and will now be riding through Montérégie and the Eastern Townships. Their collective efforts have raised $125,000 to support the mission of the Fondation Québec Jeunes.
"The Bank's employees have made remarkable efforts to ensure the success of the One for Youth Bicycle Tour. This fifth edition is an important milestone and symbolically confirms National Bank's interest in supporting young people across Quebec. We're proud that participating cyclists are working as hard as the Tour's organizers to contribute to the development and full potential of our youth," said Eric Bujold, president, National Bank Private Wealth 1859 and chair of the board of the Fondation Québec Jeunes.
The money raised during the Tour will support Quebec organizations such as Tel-Jeunes, as well as organizations in Montérégie and the Eastern Townships such as the Maison des Jeunes-Est de Sherbrooke, Croquarium, a nutrition education organization located in Waterville, and the Fondation du Cégep de Granby and Saint-Joseph High School, both in St-Hyacinthe.
Participating National Bank employees will take one of three proposed routes (beginner, intermediate or advanced) as they embark on a personal challenge that corresponds to their abilities, with daily distances ranging from 60 to 115 km. This year's event was launched by Mr. Bujold along with this edition's spokesperson, actor Martin Vachon, who generously agreed to join the Tour and support young people.
The cyclists will be making rest stops along the way and taking photos to preserve memories of their journey. They greatly appreciate the supporters who turn out to cheer and encourage them on this exciting adventure. Since its beginnings, this initiative has raised more than $400 000 for youth and has involved 700 National Bank employees.
